In honor of Star Wars Day let’s explore some of the lessons we can learn from George Lucas and this galaxy far, far away.
“Do or do not, there is no try.” – Yoda
We talk a lot about getting intentional. But we know that getting intentional is so much more than mind-set. It’s about doing. Taking action. My personal favorite character is Yoda. He calls it like it is.
In my house, we don’t say the word try. If we commit to something, we do it. Every time.
“You can’t stop change any more than you can stop the suns from setting.” – Shmi Skywalker
Change happens. You cannot stop change. You can fight change, but it’s a battle you will lose as change is inevitable. But you can choose to embrace it and be a part of change. When you embrace change, you claim back your ability to affect the outcome. When you fight it, you don’t.
“Always pass on what you have learned.” – Yoda
We believe in paying it forward. Every single one of us started at the beginning. We’ve all learned by others investing in us. We can honor those who invested in us by paying it forward and investing in others.
What can you pass on that you have learned?
“The ability to speak does not make you intelligent.” – Qui-Gon Jinn
With the modern age so many people are given a platform to speak. Whether that is on a blog, YouTube video, or a simply Facebook post. Remember, just because someone has a platform or a large following, it does not make them the expert. Question what you read. Ask for facts. Make informed decisions. We all need to be part of not spreading false information or fear mongering.
“The longing you seek is not behind you, it’s in front of you.” Maz Kanata
Your greatest journey is ahead of you, not behind. Are you letting things from the past, hold you back? Take some time to face and resolve those things that are holding you back so you can focus on what is ahead of you. That’s where you’ll find the good stuff. What are you longing for this Star Wars Day?
“Sometimes we must let go of our pride and do what is asked of us.” – Anakin Skywalker
Entrepreneurs know better than anyone, sometimes you just have to roll up your sleeves and get the work done. In the early stages of business, you can’t always afford to staff an entire team. So we have to set aside our pride and do some of the dirty work, until we bring in enough revenue to hire someone else to do the things that don’t bring us joy.
We also recommend trading services with other entrepreneurs. For example, Jennifer and I saw the value in using a professional photographer for our marketing photos. So we traded some of our marketing expertise with an amazingly talented photog. And it’s a win-win for both.
“Never tell me the odds.” – Han Solo
Don’t get discouraged if the odds are stacked against you. Instead, plan to beat the odds. Of course, we always recommend doing your research, having adequate preparation, and making intelligent decisions for your business. But, the truth is, you’ve already chosen to ignore the odds by becoming an entrepreneur as over 50% of startups fail within the first 5 years.
Our experience is that 100% of the entrepreneurs who defy the odds and succeed do so by taking action (they don’t just try), being open to change (it’s inevitable), investing in others, making informed decisions, and remaining humble.
If you’re inspired by Star Wars Day and ready to quit trying and start doing, then hit us up. We’d love to help get intentional with your biz.
